Introduction
While many serial cards support a maximum baud
rate of 115.2Kbps or sometimes 230 Kbps on each port, Comtrol's
RocketPort Plus uPCi is different. It supports baud
rates of up to 921 Kbps simultaneously across all ports.
Our RocketPort Plus uPCi uses 44 MHz
processors specifically designed to process asynchronous serial
communications in order to maximize performance and eliminate
bottlenecks. We offer 4 and 8 port solutions within the RocketPort
Plus uPCi product range.
The RocketPort Plus uPCI multiport serial
card uses fully integrated ASICs (Application Specific Integrated
Circuits) to not only reduce the component count by 80%, but
also reduce RocketPort Plus' uPCi power consumption
considerably and increase mean time between failures. The
result is the most reliable and economical serial port card
available.
Comtrols' RocketPort Plus uPCI is designed
to withstand electrostatic discharge and power surges up to
25 KV ESD..
The large FIFOs on the RocketPort Plus uPCI
ensure sustained transfer rates by buffering data when the
CPU is busy. This prevents continual starting and stopping
increasing the load on the CPU and reducing the overall performance
of the card. These large buffers help ensure consistent, high
throughput even on heavily loaded servers.
With the ASIC design and larger FIFO buffers,
combined with two dedicated 44 MHz processors for each of
the four ports, gives RocketPort Plus uPCI the power
to sustain throughput at speeds of up to 921 Kbps on each
port simultaneously.
The controller is avaiable in an RS232 version
, with DB9M or DB25M connectors. Alternatively an RS422 DB9M
version is offered.
An RS422 version compatible with SMPTE 207M
is also available.
