The Ruckus ICX 7550-48P is a robust, enterprise-grade, stackable Layer 3 access switch designed to support high-density, power-hungry network environments with demanding bandwidth and connectivity needs. Equipped with 48 Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ ports, it provides ample power and data throughput to support a wide array of devices, including Wi-Fi access points, IP telephones, video surveillance cameras, and IoT sensors — all over a single Ethernet cable. This makes the ICX 7550-48P an ideal solution for organizations looking to consolidate and simplify their infrastructure while ensuring high performance and reliability.

Built on a modular and scalable architecture, the switch supports advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching and routing protocols, enabling seamless integration into complex enterprise network topologies. The device supports static routing, dynamic routing protocols like OSPF and RIP, and offers robust traffic management and quality of service (QoS) features to prioritize critical data flows. These capabilities make the ICX 7550-48P suitable not only for access-layer deployments but also for aggregation or distribution roles in larger network designs.

The switch includes four 1/10 Gigabit SFP+ ports and four 40 Gigabit QSFP+ ports that provide high-speed uplinks and flexible stacking options. With stacking bandwidth of up to 960 Gbps, up to 12 switches can be managed as a single unit, greatly simplifying management and expanding network capacity without sacrificing performance. This stacking feature supports hitless upgrades and provides redundancy to enhance network uptime and resilience.

From a hardware perspective, the ICX 7550-48P features redundant, hot-swappable power supplies and fans, ensuring continuous operation in critical environments. Its front-to-back airflow design optimizes cooling efficiency in data center racks. The switch also boasts an impressive 2,000-watt PoE budget, enabling it to power a large number of connected devices simultaneously, even those with higher power requirements such as pan-tilt-zoom cameras or advanced wireless access points.

Security is paramount in today’s enterprise networks, and the ICX 7550-48P delivers advanced protections, including MACsec encryption for secure Layer 2 traffic, robust access control with 802.1X authentication, DHCP snooping, ARP inspection, and comprehensive denial-of-service (DoS) protection. These features help safeguard sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access or attacks.

Management and automation are made simple through integration with Ruckus’ suite of management tools, including SmartZone, Cloud-based controllers, and controllerless options, enabling centralized network visibility, configuration, and troubleshooting. Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) and software-defined networking (SDN) capabilities such as OpenFlow further streamline deployment and network orchestration.

Overall, the Ruckus ICX 7550-48P offers a future-proof, scalable, and secure switching platform that balances high port density, significant PoE power, and advanced networking features. It is well-suited for enterprise campuses, large branch offices, data centers, and any environment that demands reliable, high-performance access switching with flexibility for growth.
