Data Centre Meet Me Room Connectivity
Extending Service Provider Connectivity in Co-Location Data Centres with iConverter Media Converters
Service Providers often lease rack space in Co-Location (Colo) Data Centres and Carrier Hotels to deliver network connectivity to enterprise customers located in the same facility. Within these multi-tenant environments, connectivity between the Service Providers’ cage, and the customers cage typically passes through the Meet Me Room (MMR) – a shared interconnect space designed for cross-connections between carriers and customers.
However, many customer cages are located well beyond the 100-metre distance limitation of copper cabling, making it impossible to run direct copper Ethernet without signal loss or degradation.
To overcome this limitation, Service Providers deploy iConverter Copper-to-Fibre Media Converters to extend connectivity over optical fibre.
Example
In this application, a Service Provider has installed an iConverter 19-Module Chassis popultated with managed media converter modules in the Meet Me Room. Each module converts copper interfaces from the providers equipment to fibre, which then extends connectivity to customer cages throughout the data centre.
Gigabit Ethernet Connectivity
The iConverter GX/T2 Gigabit Media Converters are installed in the 19-module chassis to convert 10/100/1000Base-T copper connections to fibre (1000BASE-X). The fibre cabling runs through the data centre’s structured cabling infrastructure to the customer’s routers, switches or servers, enabling the service provider to deliver high speed Ethernet services to any location within the data centre – far beyond the copper distance limit – without the need for repeaters or active intermediate equipment.
