Gigabit Ethernet Copper-to-Fibre Media Converter
The FlexPoint Gx is a 1000BASE-T copper to 1000BASE-SX/LX fiber media converter, offering reliable and cost-effective network connectivity and fibre extension.
It auto-negotiates with network devices for swift installations and features manual switches and LED indicators for easy legacy network integration.
The device includes an auto-sensing RJ-45 port that adapts to the duplex and pause modes of connected devices, with manual control over RJ-45 port operations. It also has a crossover switch for direct connection to workstations or switches.
Network flow control is managed through an auto-selected or manually chosen Pause function to alleviate network congestion.
The fiber port supports 850nm, 1310nm, or 1550nm wavelengths and SC, MT-RJ, or LC connectors. Multimode variants cover up to 550m, while single-mode variants reach up to 140km.
Selectable link modes enable quick identification and management of link faults, which can be communicated to managed devices or contained within a segment.
LED indicators provide diagnostic information to aid in network installation and maintenance, displaying power status, port activity, link status, and duplex mode.
FlexPoint modules can be wall-mounted, DIN-rail mounted, or rack-mounted in a 5-Module shelf or a 14-Module, power-redundant Powered Chassis.
Modules in the 5-Module shelf or standalone units can be powered via an external AC to DC power adapter or a 5VDC chassis connector. Standalone modules may also use an external DC power supply ranging from 18-60VDC. In a 14-Module power-redundant Powered Chassis, they can utilize various AC and DC power supplies.
FlexPoint media converters have a wide variety of power and mounting options, providing easy upgrade paths as network requirements grow and change.

In this example of an enterprise campus application, FlexPoint Gx media converters are housed in a 14-Module Redundant Power chassis to facilitate high-density fibre distribution from UTP switch equipment at the Network Core. A UTP workgroup switch (A) is linked via fibre to a standalone FlexPoint Gx media converter. Another FlexPoint Gx is used to convert the fibre back to UTP in a fibre-to-desktop scenario (B). An Ethernet switch (C) is directly connected through fibre to the FlexPoint module at the Network Core. For all connections, either multimode or single-mode fibre may be utilized, with the capability to extend fibre links up to 80km using single-mode fibre.
