OmniConverter® GL/Sx

Unmanaged Single Pair Ethernet Switch

OmniConverter® GLPoE/Sx

The OmniConverter GL/Sx is a compact, unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet switch featuring copper or fiber uplink ports and four single-pair 10BASE-T1L Ethernet user ports.

It includes four IEEE 802.3cg-compliant 10BASE-T1L ports, available as 3-pin SPE terminal blocks or IEC 63171-2 connectors. Uplink options include two 10/100/1000 RJ-45 copper ports or 100/1000 fiber ports.

As a standard Layer 2 Ethernet switch, the GL/Sx forwards frames based on MAC address and supports advanced features including:

  • Dual Device Mode: Operates as two isolated Ethernet switches, providing separate data paths between each uplink port and two user ports.

  • Directed Switch Mode: Limits multicast traffic (e.g., video) to the relevant uplink port, preventing unnecessary flooding across other ports.

  • Redundant Uplinks: Supports failover and recovery between primary and secondary uplinks for critical applications. The second uplink can also be used to daisy-chain multiple switches.

Operating modes are easily configured via DIP switches, clearly labeled on the device for convenience.

The GL/Sx is available with Small Form Pluggable (SFP) receptacles or 10/100/1000 RJ-45 copper uplinks. SFP ports support a variety of copper and fiber transceivers, including 10/100/1000BASE-T and 100Mbps/1000Mbps fiber (standard, CWDM, DWDM) for various distances and fiber types.

Mounting options include wall, rack (using shelf 8260-0), or DIN-rail (using clips 8251-0). Power options include an external 100–240V AC adapter or a DC terminal block.

Building Automation

This example demonstrates a Building Automation application utilizing an OmniConverter GL/Sx switch and 10TPS/L modules to connect various building systems to a centralized control room. No external AC power is needed, as the 10TPS/L modules receive power from the GL/Sx switch via a Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) cable, and in turn, power the connected building systems. The OmniConverter modules manage and control systems such as motion detection, lighting, elevator operation, floor access control, security surveillance, and HVAC.

Dual Device Mode Application

The Dual Device feature is especially valuable when two isolated network domains need to share a common network distribution point.

In the example below, a surveillance security network (green) and a Wi-Fi network (purple) both connect through a single hub location. By leveraging the Dual Device mode and utilizing two uplinks, a single switch can support both the cameras and Wi-Fi access points over Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) cabling—while keeping the two networks isolated.

No AC power is required at the remote end. The OmniConverter GLPoE/Sx supplies power over the SPE cable to the OmniConverter 10TPS/LPD, which then powers both the cameras and the access points.
