The RuggedNet G/Mi is a ruggedized industrial Gigabit Ethernet switch featuring fiber or copper uplink ports, along with four or eight 10/100/1000 RJ-45 copper user ports. It facilitates the extension of industrial network distances using either fiber or copper cabling.
As a standard Layer 2 Ethernet switch, the RuggedNet G/Mi routes frames to any port based on MAC addresses.
It also supports Directed Switch mode, channeling multicast traffic, such as video, exclusively to the designated uplink port to prevent network port flooding.
Models equipped with dual fiber or copper uplink ports offer redundant uplinks, support for industrial ring Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP), Spanning Tree Protocol, and daisy-chain configurations, enhancing industrial network application reliability.
These models also feature a Dual Device mode, allowing the G/Mi to function as two separate and isolated Ethernet switches. This mode provides distinct and independent data paths between the two uplink ports and the user ports.
Operational modes can be set using DIP-switches or through management interfaces like Web, Telnet, SSH, SNMPv1/v2c/v3, or Serial Console. The switches support IPv4 and IPv6 and offer management access to various filtering and security features, including broadcast storm prevention, IGMP, IEEE 802.1x, RADIUS, TACACS+, and Access Control Lists, along with email notifications and alarm reporting.
Available models come with fixed ST, SC, LC fiber connectors, or Small Form Pluggable (SFP) transceiver receptacles. The fiber ports accommodate multimode or single-mode, dual or single-fiber, with distances up to 140km. SFP models are compatible with a range of distances in standard, CWDM, and DWDM wavelengths.
All models are designed for wall or rack mounting using a wall mount bracket and shelf, or for DIN-rail mounting with the included hardware.
An alarm relay is available to detect user configured events. The relay contact can be configured for normally open or normally closed operation. One alarm input is available for detecting external events such as door open or closed.

Dual Device Mode Application
This Dual Device feature is extremely useful when two isolated networks domains share a single network distribution location.
The example below depicts a scenario where the Quality Control (green) network and the Manufacturing (purple) network are sharing a single hub distribution location. Using the two uplinks and the Dual Switch mode facilitates using a single switch driving both the Quality Control and the Manufacturing devices while maintaining isolation between the networks.
Daisy-Chain and Ring Topology Network Application
This example illustrates the daisy-chaining and ring capabilities of RuggedNet. In this setup, each RuggedNet switch is connected to its neighboring switches through its uplink ports, ultimately completing the ring. The RuggedNet switches provide connectivity between workstations and the router.
Employing this network architecture, along with ring protection protocols like Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) or Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP), ensures a highly resilient network essential for mission-critical applications.
