The RuggedNet G/Si is an unmanaged, ruggedized industrial gigabit Ethernet switch featuring fiber or copper uplink ports, along with four or eight 10/100/1000 RJ-45 copper user ports. It facilitates the extension of industrial network distances using fibre cabling.
As a standard Layer 2 Ethernet switch, the RuggedNet G/Si routes frames to any port based on their MAC address.
It also offers a Directed Switch mode, channeling multicast traffic, such as video, solely to the designated uplink port to prevent flooding of other network ports.
Models equipped with dual fibre or copper uplink ports enable daisy-chain setups or redundant uplinks, essential for critical applications demanding protection and sub-50ms recovery in case of an uplink failure.
These models also feature a Dual Device mode, allowing the G/Si to function as two separate and isolated Ethernet switches. This mode ensures distinct and independent data paths between the two uplink ports and the user ports.
Configuring the G/Si’s operational modes is straightforward with the DIP-switches, each function clearly labeled on the device’s side for easy identification and adjustment.
Available models come with fixed ST, SC, and LC fibre connectors or Small Form Pluggable (SFP) transceiver slots. The fibre ports accommodate multimode or single-mode, dual or single-fibre connections, with distances reaching up to 140km. SFP models offer various distance options in standard, CWDM, and DWWM wavelengths.
Installation options include wall or rack mounting using a bracket and shelf, or DIN-rail mounting with the provided clip. Models come with either a single or dual DC input power configurations.

Dual Device Mode Application
The Dual Device feature proves highly beneficial for two separate network domains that share a single network distribution point.
In the scenario illustrated, the Quality Control (green) network and the Manufacturing (purple) network converge at a single hub distribution point. Employing dual uplinks and the Dual Switch mode enables a single switch to manage both the Quality Control and Manufacturing devices, while preserving network isolation.
Industrial Daisy Chain Application
This example illustrates the daisy chain capabilities of RuggedNet switches. In this setup, each RuggedNet switch is connected to adjacent switches through its uplink ports. The daisy chain can be extended to more switches using this connectivity method.
In this scenario, two sites are interconnected using RuggedNet switches, enabling communication between the workstations and the router.
