The RuggedNet GL/Si is an unmanaged industrial Gigabit Ethernet switch designed with a combination of copper or fiber uplink ports and four 10BASE-T1L Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) copper user ports.
This switch includes four IEEE 802.3cg-compliant 10BASE-T1L ports, available as either 3-pin SPE terminal connectors or IEC 63171-2 connectors. It also features two uplink ports, configurable as either 10/100/1000 RJ-45 copper or 100/1000 fiber.
Operating as a standard Layer 2 Ethernet switch, the GL/Si forwards Ethernet frames based on MAC address learning and switching.
The GL/Si supports multiple operating modes:
Dual Device Mode allows the switch to function as two independent and isolated Ethernet switches. Each set of user and uplink ports operates in a separate data domain, offering complete traffic separation.
Directed Switch Mode optimizes multicast traffic handling (e.g., video streams) by directing it only to the appropriate uplink port, preventing multicast flooding across other ports.
Redundant Uplink Mode offers failover protection by switching from a primary to a secondary uplink port in case of link failure. Once the primary link is restored, the switch automatically reverts to it.
For daisy-chain configurations, the second uplink port can be used to link multiple switches in a series.
The switch’s modes and features are easily configured using clearly labeled DIP switches located on the side of the device.
Available in models with Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) transceiver receptacles or 10/100/1000 RJ-45 copper ports, the SFP versions support 10/100/1000BASE-T and 1000BASE-T copper transceivers, as well as 100Mbps and 1000Mbps fiber transceivers, including standard, CWDM, and DWDM options for various distances and fiber types.
Mounting options include wall, rack (with bracket 8260-3 and shelf 8260-0), or DIN-rail mounting with the included clip. The switch supports dual DC power input for added reliability in industrial environments.

Industrial Manufacturing Application Example
In this application, Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) technology is used to extend Ethernet connectivity beyond the standard 100-meter limit—ideal for large industrial environments. Each industrial device is connected via long-reach SPE cabling to a RuggedNet® GL/Si switch, which aggregates the connections.
The RuggedNet GL/Si then links back to the remote Manufacturing Control Room using high-speed fiber optic cabling, ensuring reliable, long-distance communication between field devices and central monitoring systems.
This solution enables seamless, efficient, and cost-effective Ethernet networking across expansive manufacturing floors.
Dual Device Mode Application Example
The Dual Device Mode is ideal for environments where two isolated network domains need to share a single network distribution point—without compromising security or performance.
In the scenario illustrated below, the Manufacturing network (green) and the Quality Control network (purple) operate independently but share a common distribution hub. By enabling Dual Device Mode, the RuggedNet® GL/Si switch uses its two uplinks to function as two separate Ethernet switches within one compact unit.
Each network connects to its respective devices over Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) cabling, maintaining full traffic isolation. At the remote endpoints, OmniConverter® 10T/T1L modules are used to convert the SPE (T1L) connections back to standard Ethernet, enabling seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
This setup reduces hardware costs, saves space, and simplifies deployments—while ensuring complete network separation.
